Abstract:
A socio-cultural study of the Sententiae of the one-time slave Publilius Syrus, stressing their durability and influence in the Roman Imperial age as a vehicle by which young children were instructed in traditional Roman norms and values, including the normative institution of slavery.
Résumé:
Cette étude socio-culturelle des Sententiae de l’ancien esclave Publilius Syrus souligne leur longévité à l’époque impériale romaine en tant que moyen par lequel les jeunes enfants apprenaient les normes et les valeurs romaines traditionnelles, y compris l’acceptation normative de l’esclavage.
