"Eating Kola": The Pharmacological and Therapeutic Significance of Kola Nuts

The importance of kola as a psychoactive substance has not been a focus of analysis despite the contemporary interest in licit and illicit drugs. The only exception is Paul Lovejoy's "'Coffee' of the Central Sudan." This paper thus seeks to highlight the importance of kola as a "drug" and to stress the need for more research on the medicinal properties of kola.
