'A great weyahaerin'?: Popular Poetry, the Press, and Women's Suffrage in Scotland

This article explores the press response to the female suffrage movement in Scotland, highlighting the prevalence of anti-suffrage poetry within local and national newspapers. It concludes that the use of Scots prose and poetry was more characteristic of the opponents of female suffrage, and explores a popular, 'vernacular' antagonism to female voting rights within the songs and poetry circulated by the press in Scotland.
