Declaración Del Artista

Artista visual nacida en la República Dominicana. Realiza estudios superiores de arte en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. Graduada como Licenciada en Artes Plásticas (Cum Laude) en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). Profesora de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes de Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Desde el 2009 es Co-fundadora del Laboratorio Evolutivo de Arte Contemporáneo, junto a Rosalba Hernández. Ha participado como artista en residencia en ferias, así como en bienales y proyectos internacionales en distintos países de Centro América, Norte América, Sur América, Europa y Asia. Seleccionada por la organización ARTIADE para representar al país en las olimpiadas del arte, evento que se organiza con motivo a los Juegos Olímpicos “Atenas 2004.” Desde el 2000 participa en la muestra Women of the World, con una ruta itinerante en diferentes museos, galerías y centros culturales del mundo. Ha participado en cursos y talleres de especialización en cerámica, grabado e historia del arte, en varias instituciones del país.

Invitada para ser jurado en los premios Ford Conservación y Medio Ambiente en la versión del 2005. Iris Pérez Ha realizado murales y Esculturas como la Pieza de El Poeta Lowesky Medina, develizada en el Parque Central de Duvergé en 1994, Mural colectivo de artistas Dominicanos y peruanos Area infantil del Robert Reid Cabral, Mural colectivo de artistas Dominicanos y cubanos, Santiago de Cuba, 1991, Mural colectivo donado a la Fundación Chang Aquino, 1997 y el gran Mural realizado en el Teatro Nacional, Como registro del Dialogo Nacional en 1998, mural realizado para el Asilo de Ancianos San Francisco de Asís con la cooperación de la embajada de Japón; Mural colectivo realizado en el Cabreto coordinado en conjunto con las naciones unidas, UNICEF, Mural Colectivo Centro de Rehabilitación coordinado por el [End Page 212] MUDIC. Desde el 2011 al 2014 viene realizando el Monumento escultórico Luz del Mundo, en Santo Cerro, La Vega, República Dominicana.

Artist Statement

Iris Pérez Romero is a visual artist born in the Dominican Republic. She undertook advanced study at the National School of Fine Arts and took her undergraduate degree in plastic arts (cum laude) at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. She teaches at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and has been the cofounder with Rosalba Hernández of the Evolving Laboratory for Modern Art since 2009. She has been the artist-in-residence at international fairs, biennales, and projects in countries throughout Central America, North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. She was chosen by the ARTIADE organization to represent the country in the Art Olympics, an event concurrent with the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Since 2000, she has been part of the “Women of the World” traveling exhibit shown at various museums, galleries and cultural centers throughout the world. She has participated in ceramics, engraving, and art history courses and workshops at institutions throughout the country.

Pérez Romero was asked to be on the 2005 awards committee for the Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants. She has done murals and sculptures such as the Piece of the Poet Lowesky Medina, installed in 1994 at the Central Park of Duvergé; the mural produced by a collective of Dominican and Peruvian artists for the Children’s Area of the Robert Reid Cabral Medical Center; the mural produced in 1991 by a collective of Dominican and Cuban artists in Santiago de Cuba; the community mural donated to the Chang Aquino Foundation in 1997; the Great Mural installed at the National Theatre as part of the National Dialogue Registry in 1998; the mural produced for the Eldercare Facility in San Francisco de Asisi sponsored by the Embassy of Japan; the community mural undertaken in Cabreto by the United Nations, UNICEF; and the Community Mural for the Rehabilitation Center coordinated by MUDIC.
