judkin browning and timothy silver are professors of history at Appalachian State University. Browning has written about the military and social aspects of the Civil War. Silver has written extensively on the environmental history of the American South. They are coauthoring an environmental history of the Civil War, under contract with the University of North Carolina Press.

gaines m. foster is the LSU Foundation Murphy J. Foster Professor of History at Louisiana State University.
