Abstract:

The following talk was delivered by August Nimtz on December 15, 2016, at Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis. The occasion was a public program to celebrate the life of Fidel Castro, sponsored by the Minnesota Cuba Committee. Nimtz is co-coordinator of the committee as well as professor of political science and African American and African studies. The committee has organized solidarity work for the Cuban Revolution in Minnesota since 1990 and is part of the National Network on Cuba that organizes similar activities in other cities. Nimtz is also coeditor along with Gary Prevost of Race in Cuba: Essays on the Revolution and Racial Inequality by Esteban Morales Dominguez. The talk has been slightly edited for the sake of clarity.
