Abstract:

This article centers on the 1975–2011 period and the events of the 15M in order to redefine populism as the political organization of a heterogeneous social reality that emerges from Spain's postimperial history. The period is redefined as the Second Restoration and furthermore, the 15M and its political aftermath is not presented as a break but rather as its continuation. The article offers a new analysis of populism based on a politics of affect where the leader is central. The film Ocho apellidos vascos is studied, next to celebrities/leaders Belén Esteban and Pablo Iglesias. Finally, the article attempts an historical analysis of neoliberalism and its Spanish elite, la gente guapa.

Resumen:

Este artículo se centra en el período 1975–2011 y los acontecimientos del 15M para redefinir el populismo como la organización política de una realidad social heterogénea que surge de la historia posimperial de España. El período se redefine como la Segunda Restauración, y el 15M y sus secuelas políticas no se presentan como una ruptura, sino más bien como su continuación. El artículo ofrece un nuevo análisis del populismo basado en la política del afecto y la centralidad del líder. También se estudia la película Ocho apellidos vascos, junto a las celebridades/líderes Belén Esteban y Pablo Iglesias. Finalmente, el artículo intenta un análisis histórico del neoliberalismo y su élite española, la gente guapa.
