Speed Control: The Politics of Mobility in Roberto Bolaño's 2666 and its Theatrical Adaptation by Àlex Rigola

This article examines the dynamics of speed, power, and mobility in Roberto Bolaño's 2666 and its theatrical adaptation by Àlex Rigola. Much like the novel, the play uses snapshot-like slices of stillness to capture the various settings of 2666. These vignettes are then strung together to create a rapid-paced narrative highway that links the novel's multiple localities and the broader global processes that act upon and between them. By assessing the interplay of mobility and stasis in the novel and play, this article maps the threads that weave together 2666's narrative vignettes to bridge the spatial and temporal gaps between the novel's multiple localities. In doing so, this article sheds light on the compression of globalized processes within the fragmented narrative space of 2666. Furthermore, it highlights the greater impact of transnational texts' manipulation of speed: time and place are made malleable in order to capture and communicate diverse individual trajectories within a globalized world.

El siguiente artículo explora las diferentes dinámicas de velocidad, poder y movilidad presentes en la novela 2666 de Roberto Bolaño y en su respectiva adaptación al teatro realizada por Àlex Rigola. Tal como en la novela, la obra propone la utilización de fragmentos de quietud para registrar las diferentes escenas. Las viñetas de la obra se unen para dar lugar a un rápido camino narrativo que vincula los múltiples espacios novelísticos con los más amplios procesos globales que actúan sobre y entre dichos espacios. Mediante la evaluación del diálogo presente entre la movilidad y la inmovilidad tanto en la novela como en la obra, este artículo teje los hilos que entrelazan las viñetas narrativas de 2666 para vincular las brechas espaciales y temporales entre las múltiples secciones de la novela. Este artículo ofrece una luz sobre la compresión de los procesos globalizados en el espacio narrativo fragmentado de 2666. Además, resalta el mayor impacto de la manipulación de la velocidad en los textos transnacionales: el tiempo y el lugar se vuelven maleables para capturar y comunicar diversas trayectorias individuales en un mundo globalizado.
