The papers collected in this volume were originally presented at a conference entitled "Moralizing Strategies in Early Greek Poetry," held at Memorial University, St. John's, Newfoundland in July 2015. We are grateful to the Department of Classics at Memorial for their kind hospitality, and particularly to Professor Brad Levett, then Editor of Mouseion, for inviting us to hold the event in the first place, and to both him and Mrs. Cathy Kieley, the department's administrative assistant, for their generous help in organizing it. It was a great pleasure to discuss the participants' ideas and to enjoy their company, and we thank them for their contributions both to the conference and to the volume that followed. Thanks are also due to the two anonymous readers for their insights and constructive comments.

Les articles réunis dans ce volume ont d'abord fait l'objet d'une présentation lors d'un colloque intitulé « Stratégies moralisantes dans la poésie grecque archaïque », qui s'est tenu à l'Université Memorial, à St-Jean de Terre-Neuve, en juillet 2015. Nous voudrions exprimer notre gratitude envers le Department of Classics de Memorial pour leur accueil chaleureux.
