Abstract

ABSTRACT:

The serendipitous discovery of two letters, dated 1945, from Richard S. Hill to William H. Scheide in an exhibit at Princeton University's Firestone Library provides us with a glimpse into Hill's vision for the Music Library Association's journal, Notes. In seeking context for the letters I have explored the lives of Hill, his family, and Scheide, and in doing so uncovered some mysteries or, at least, anomalies in the historical accounts of Hill's biography.
