Abstract

Abstract:

In this lyric essay, the author explores her hypnopompic hallucinations of snakes, scorpions, and other assorted vermin that she began to experience after a cross-country move to Oklahoma. The author considers the connections between the hallucinations, her grief over her brother's suicide, and her geographical displacement from Appalachia, the region that contains her birthplace, her family's home, and her brother's grave.
