News Notes News Notes The1985conference of the Canadian Association for American Studies will beheld 19-20October at Royal Roads Military College, Victoria, B.C. The conferencetheme is "America's Pacific Frontier: Visions and Visionaries." Theconveners,Gordon Martel and Mark Madoff, invite proposals for sessions orpapers,or complete papers, on the broad theme of American activities in, contactwith, imaginings of, anxieties about the Pacific and America's Pacific neighbors. This theme would certainly include the shift of American attention andaspirations westward, away from a European focus. Interdisciplinary compositionof sessions will be strongly encouraged. Not encouraged are strictlyliterary or historical papers or session proposals.
