366 Notes on Contributors Notes on Contributors Geraldine Anthony, S.C., is Professor of English and Chairman ofthe Department at Mount Saint Vincent University. A consistent contributor to research and criticism of Canadian drama, she is author of John Coulter and Gwen Pharis Ringwood, and editor of Stage Voices and Profilesin Canadian Drama. A New Yorker by birth, Dr. Anthony teaches coursesin both American and Canadian literatures. Ann Garmon Condon is an Associate Professor of History at the Universitv of New Brunswick at St. John. A specialist on the Loyalists, she has co~tributed to Robert Allen, ed., The Loyal Americans and to Red, White& True Blue: The Loyalists of the American Revolution, as well as to Acadiensis. Joseph Griffin is an Associate Professor of English at the University ofOttawa. His book, The Small Canvas: An Introduction to Dreiser's Short Stories,will be published in 1985. Roderick W. Harvey teaches in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Medicine Hat College. He has published essay in Canadian Literature, Canadian Poetry and Essays on Canadian Writing, as wellasa previous review essay in CRevAS. William G. Heath isan Associate Professor of English at Lakehead University. In addition to his essays and reviews, he has published a critical editionof selected writings of Cyrus Bartol, Spirit and Personality (1977). Zachary T. Irwin is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College. In addition to his interest in utopianism and future studies, he has published several articles on Muslims in the Balkan states. Forthcoming is a monograph on Soviet· Israeli relations. William R. Macnaughton is an Associate Professor of English and Chairman of the Department at the University of Waterloo. In addition to his numerous essays on American literature published in the leading journals, he isthe author of Mark Twain's Last Years as a Writer (1979) and editor of Critical Essays on John Updike (1982). He is at work on a book, The Later Novelsof Henry James. Charles M. Redenius is Professor of Political Science at the Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College. He is author of The American Ideal of Equality: From Jefferson '.S' Declaration to the Burger Court (1981)andhas published numerous articles on American political thought, political econom; and public law. During 1981-82 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Notes on Contributors 367 University of Reading, where he carried out a comparative study of the economic policiesofthe Reagan administration and the Thatcher government. R.w.Roetger is an Assistant Professor of History at Emerson College. He haspublished in the New Haven Colony Historical Society Journal. he is currentlystudying methods of conflict resolution in seventeenth-century Connecticut. RogerG. Seamon is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of British Columbia. He has published on James, Whitman, Canadian poetry andWilliamCarlos Williams. GordonE. Slethaug is an Associate Professor of English at the University ofWaterloo. He has published essayson a number of modem American authors. News Notes News Notes The1985conference of the Canadian Association for American Studies will beheld 19-20October at Royal Roads Military College, Victoria, B.C. The conferencetheme is "America's Pacific Frontier: Visions and Visionaries." Theconveners,Gordon Martel and Mark Madoff, invite proposals for sessions orpapers,or complete papers, on the broad theme of American activities in, contactwith, imaginings of, anxieties about the Pacific and America's Pacific neighbors. This theme would certainly include the shift of American attention andaspirations westward, away from a European focus. Interdisciplinary compositionof sessions will be strongly encouraged. Not encouraged are strictlyliterary or historical papers or session proposals. In considering proposals,the conveners will prefer submissions of complete sessions (i.e., 3 papersand commentary, 2 hours). Send proposals (approx. 2 pages) or papersto: Prof. Mark S.
