Abstract:
Regarded as another of the great masters of haiku, Issa was born about one hundred years after Basho. Playful and down to earth, Issa wrote over twenty thousand haiku. Like Basho's, Issa's poems have a spontaneity that swiftly realizes an image, emotion, or thought. Using common language, with great tenderness he wrote of small animals, insects, and creatures. ED
