Editors' Note, Mouseion 14.3

With this issue, we rename our Varia section, which has for many years now served as a venerable showcase for original compositions in Greek and Latin (including the gratiarum actiones presented at the Classical Association of Canada's annual meetings), as well as a home for items that did not belong categorially among the scholarly articles and reports that fill the majority of our pages. The title under which we re-inaugurate the Varia section, "Echos du Monde Classique/Classical Views," is a nostalgic memento of the name the journal wore (in various combinations) through its first and second series (1956–2000). The change is intended not to supplant the kind of material that previously appeared in the Varia, but rather both to highlight it and to extend its range. We welcome pieces of a speculative and creative nature that may not fit the mould of traditional scholarship. For example, we have in mind opinion pieces and brief essays that broadly compare ancient and contemporary phenomena, as well as creative compositions and translations into or from Greek, Latin, French, and English. Other kinds of submission that might find a home in this section will also be considered, and we are happy to field enquiries.
