Le Testament soufi de Abdelwahab Meddeb

Résumé:

À partir de plusieurs textes de Abdelwahab Meddeb (1946-2014), nous proposons une lecture critique décrivant son projet esthétique et éthique. L'œuvre de Meddeb porte en elle la tentative d'une rencontre entre les traditions poétiques (ou transpoéticité) et entre textes issus de cette diversité (intertextualité). La nature relationnelle de son projet poétique culmine, à un autre niveau d'interprétation, dans la projection d'une éthique actualisant le verbe poétique. On ne peut donc lire la poésie de Meddeb sans garder en tête l'idée d'un projet total qui vise une nouvelle anthropologie culturelle de l'Islam qui mêle ouvertement le politique et le poétique. En cela, Meddeb s'inscrit dans la tradition soufie qui fait de l'expérience esthétique une éthique dont l'interprétation commande à l'action dans le monde. Dans une tentative de transcendance d'une binarité imposée, opposant l'Orient (comme source de différence) et l'Occident, Meddeb actualise l'axiome d'un tout-monde proposé par Edouard Glissant. L'article tente d'analyser le processus menant d'une pensée du poétique à une éthique dont l'origine se trouve dans l'expérience du monde dont la source vitale (an-nafs) est l'amour.

Based on the analysis of several texts by Abdelwahab Meddeb (1946-2014), we offer a critical reading describing the aesthetical and ethical aspects of his œuvre. Meddeb's works attempt to demonstrate an encounter among several poetical traditions (transpoetics) and texts (intertextuality). The essential relationality of his poetical project culminates, at another level of interpretation, in an ethics actualizing poetical meaning. We cannot read Meddeb's poetry without keeping in mind the idea of a totalizing project that aims at offering a new anthropology of Islam, where the poetical and the political can openly meet. In this regard, Meddeb inscribes his legacy in the Sufi tradition, where aesthetical experience turns into an ethics whose interpretation dictates action in the world. In an attempt to transcend an imposed binary, opposing the Orient (as the other) to the Occident, Meddeb actualizes the axiomatic expression toutmonde proposed by Edouard Glissant. The article analyzes the process of transforming poetics into an ethics –the origin of which is found in the experience of the world whose vital source (an-nafs) is love.
