Kant and Theology

This article reports a change in Kant scholarship over the past thirty years. The consensus had been that Kant was an opponent of orthodox Christian theology, but it has now become an open question how this relation should be characterized. This article distinguishes five types of answer to this question, discusses three areas where theologically affirmative interpretations have been inadequate, and three areas where such interpretations have promise of contributing significantly to contemporary ethical theory.
