Down in the roadside scrub crawled the spiked bright company, glam worms,gathered starts, fat fat globbingly grass blades: certified owned byneighborhood kiddos, trapped in a glass-jar rainforest. Sticks. Stuck.
Sleeping isolate, dawn gone gray-gown, grubs meet the moment:oldest of stories under the sea salt, we children watch wait . . .wholly the bodies split wide with wet wings, way wanting: tear here— [End Page 51]
HEIDI LYNN STAPLES's debut collection, Guess Can Gallop, was selected by Brenda Hillman for the New Issues Poetry Prize.
