Maritime piracy poses a significant threat to international trade, particularly as it continues to wreak havoc on the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. However, beyond arousing the economic concerns of individual state actors and private business interests, maritime pirate activity threatens to fund criminal acts and terrorism on a global scale.
