Abstract

Framed as a historiographic study of precedents and transfers that influenced Chilean modernism, this article traces the two-way cultural relationship between Spain and Chile following the Spanish Civil War, beginning with the arrival of Spanish exiles to Chile, the Winnipeg Effect, through the cases of Spanish-born Chilean artists José Balmes and Roser Bru. Examples in this discussion include Informalism and Grupo Signo exhibitions, and a new opening in Chilean art in the late 20th century.

Esta reflexión historiográfica revisa las influencias sobre la renovación artística desde mediados de siglo XX en Chile después de la llegada de exiliados de España, tras la Guerra Civil Española, influencia denominada el efecto Winnipeg, trazando los casos de los artistas chilenos de origen español José Balmes y Roser Bru. Contiene ejemplos del informalismo y exposiciones del Grupo Signo, para concluir en la apertura del arte hacia fines del Siglo XX es contemporáneo no Moderno.
