Abstract

Abstract:

From 1829 to 1921, the relationship between children and hygiene began to emerge as an important focal point in prescriptive texts for French preschools and "salles d'asile". From 1969 to 1986, psychological approaches to the child became prominent in such texts. After 1986, another change occurs: the school approach gradually replaces the psychological approach. In both these latter two periods, the hygienic relationship to the child was redefined. Such changes in the figuration of the child found in prescriptive texts can help explain the nature and orientation of some contemporary pedagogical practices.
