In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

To Our Readers With this second issue of PerformingArts Journalit should be clear that we are headed in a number of directions. Our first issue - the only theme issue we have planned - was devoted solely to the American theatre. In the current issue we are covering American, as well as French, German, Polish, and British theatre artists who span the last three quarters of this century. We feel that with this issue we are moving toward our stated aims of publishing works that embody the "contemporary spirit of theatre and drama." We see no reason why such diverse artists as Antonin Artaud, Edward Bond, Eugene lonesco, Trisha Brown, Michael McClure, and Richard Foreman shouldn't appear in the same journal. PAJ will continue to "mix and match" artists whose works are important to our understanding of the nature of art. I The essay entitled, "Theatrical Activities in Nazi Concentration Camps," and the memoir which accompanies it, is the first in a series of essays on little explored subjects we plan. We have also expanded our book section to include a number of capsule reviews and longer pieces which are moving more toward the essay form, and will continue to do so in future issues. We also plan to review play collections, which are generally ignored in journals and newspapers, and we will review foreign books, too. So, instead of an editorial we have offered a progress report of sorts, our vision for a theatre publication. We invite your thoughts and ideas.
