Abstract
This article examines the practical side of writing dissents and concurring reasons. The author, an appellate court judge, offers her thoughts about a variety of issues including why dissents are so uncommon, how a judge decides whether to write a dissent or concurrence, the differences between dissents and concurrences, and what makes a compelling dissent.
