Abstract
“Santa Barbara” is part of a continual engagement with the poetry of Barbara Guest, and particularly that of the last ten or so years of her writing life. In addition, it reflects an ongoing interest in thinking, as in many poems by Cole Swensen, of syntax as prosody.
