• Ben Cousins is a Professor and holds a DST/NRF Chair in Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). He established the Institute for Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) at UWC in 1995 and was its director until 2009.
• Jane Duncan is a Professor in the Department of Journalism, Film and Television at the University of Johannesburg. Before that, she held a Chair in Media and the Information Society at Rhodes Universityand is a former Executive Director of the Freedom of Expression Institute.
• Steven Friedman is a Research Professor in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Johannesburg. His current work focuses on the theory and practice of democracy and his study of South African radical thought Race, Class and Power: Harold Wolpe and the radical critique of apartheid was published in 2015. He writes a weekly column in Business Day on current political and economic developments
• Mary Galvin has worked on water and sanitation issues in South Africa as a researcher, development practitioner, and social justice activist since 1992. In 2014 she joined the University of Johannesburg as an Associate Professor in Development Studies and has recently published on innovative forms of sanitation, public-public partnerships, and new approaches to community based water adaptation to climate change.
• Nicoli Nattrass is Professor of Economics and Jeremy Seekings is Professor of Political Studies and Sociology, both at the University of Cape Town. Their most recent book is Policy, Politics and Poverty in South Africa (Palgrave 2015), to be published in South Africa by Jacana in 2016. Their next book examines the challenges of labour-intensive growth, with a case-study of the clothing industry in South Africa.
• Alexander O’Riordan is an aid effectiveness and political economy analysis consultant who mainly works for international donors like the UN and EU. He holds a PhD from the UCTand is a research associate at PRISM in the Department of Economics at the University of Cape Town.
• Anastasia Ryabchuk is a post-doctoral Research Fellow at the South African Research Chair for Social Change, University of Johannesburg.
• Manal Stulgaitis is a human rights and migration lawyer and works on refugee policy, protection and resettlement. Stulgaitis previously held the post of Director for Africa Programmes at RefugePoint and has worked with the US Government and UNHCR. She holds a joint Law and International Diplomacy graduate degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison and Tufts’ Fletcher School.
