Abstract:
Student experiences on a field trip in a forest serve as the basis for this analysis of the requirements for authentic aesthetic experiences of natural objects, following insights in John Dewey’s Art as Experience. The ken-of-kin model for experiencing a forest is compared to alternatives, and the overall value of such models in encouraging life-enriching aesthetic experiences is explored.
