In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • Editor’s Note
  • Edward Friedman

As always, my profound thanks to the contributors to this number of Bulletin of the Comediantes and to the editors and members of the board for their dedicated work and goodwill. We are transitioning to the editorship of Dr. Elizabeth Wright of the University of Georgia, with new appointments and new approaches (and, of course, exciting variations on traditional approaches) to early modern Spanish and colonial Latin American theater. I am most grateful to managing editor Dr. Cory Duclos of Colgate University for his support and wide-ranging expertise in the last year and a half. Thanks to Dr. Steven Wenz (University of South Carolina), Dr. Megan Myers (Iowa State University), and Dr. Vanesa Miserés (University of Notre Dame) for their editorial assistance.

I owe a debt of gratitude to my predecessor Dr. James Parr and to his predecessor Everett Hesse for their devotion to Comedia studies and to the mentoring of young scholars in the field. I am privileged to have worked with Dr. José Antonio Madrigal, who served for decades as managing editor. We are proud that the journal has published the work of senior scholars, of mid-career scholars, and of those who are entering the profession, and we hope to have helped scholars of all stripes to develop their ideas and to polish the presentation of their research and analyses. All who know the publications, style, professionalism, and personality of Elizabeth Wright have applauded her selection as editor. We wish her and her colleagues on BCom the very best.

In the present number, we offer seven essays and six reviews, along with an interview conducted by Dr. Esther Fernández and a collection of short reviews (“Florilegio”) by Dr. Robert Lauer. I invited James Parr to submit a reminiscence piece. The last item in this number is a short piece—which I optimistically would call “creative”—that I have dedicated to James Parr and Elizabeth Wright. May I end my closing editor’s note with thanks to all who have made the eighteen years of editing Bulletin of the Comediantes a special honor and a career highlight for me. [End Page vii]
