Most literature about academic decision-making is based on the assumption that the bureaucratic, collegial, and political models are independent. The results of this research challenge that notion. Independent variables were three sets of academic decisions—faculty personnel, institutional management, and academic mission. Perceived decision-making structure was the dependent variable. An analysis of the data indicates that bureaucratic and collegial decision-making are one construct and political decision-making a separate construct.
