A review of models of group and organization life cycle development, this paper also discusses the applicability of those models for institutions of higher education. The paper suggests that an understanding of the problems and characteristics present in different life cycle stages can help institutions manage transitions more effectively. It also points out that the criteria of effectiveness and the types of management needed in one stage of development are not the same as those needed in other stages.
