The author explores the role of the researcher, definitions of the higher-education research constituency, views of the structure of higher-education research, and the emphasis on research strategy. Researchers should be encouraged to develop concept and theory and then show their relationship to higher-education phenomena. Furthermore, the researcher should deal with real issues, involving practitioners and constituents.
