Abstract

Theodore Caplow and Reece McGee’s The Academic Marketplace, a landmark work on the sociology of the academic profession, was published in 1958. This study used Caplow and McGee’s original research framework and materials to examine the faculty personnel system in major universities today. The findings identified sources of change and continuity in the academic marketplace over a thirty-year period.
