Abstract

A number of organizational theorists use biological evolution as the theoretical base of their work. There are, however, two very different views of evolution: classic Darwinian evolution, known today as phyletic gradualism, and punctuated equilibria, the recent interpretation now accepted by most biologists. Organizational theorists in business have accepted the new model, but those in higher education have not as yet. However, the biological evolution analogy does have interesting implications for higher education administration.
