Many college and university communities, that have not already plunged into experimentation, are debating the merits of applying Total Quality Management (TQM) to academe. This discussion is generating literature containing TQM’s history and theory, along with case studies from a variety of campus environments. In this review essay, the author critiques two important texts that address Total Quality Management’s relation to the culture of higher education.
