Abstract

Pedro Vergés is one of the Dominican Republic's most noted authors. His novel Sólo cenizas hallarás (bolero) (1980) received the Spanish award "Premio Internacional Vicente Blasco Ibáñez" in 1980 and in 1981 the Spanish Critics International Award. Vergés left the Dominican Republic in the 1960s and lived and studied for many years in Spain and France before his return to the island after the publication of his novel in Europe. The following interview took place in New York in November 1994 during the "Dominican Writers in the Context of the Americas" Conference, held in New York at the Americas Society under the auspices of the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute of City College.
