Teresa Suárez, better known by her stage name Teri Gender Bender, is a multifaceted artist who engages in music, poetry, acting and painting. Born in Denver, Colorado, Teri moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, along with her mother and two brothers after the death of her father when she was thirteen. Four years later, she formed what is one of the most infl uential bands in punk today, Le Bucherettes. Th e band quickly received the acclaim of the underground scene in Mexico. In 2009 Teri published El caparazón perdido, a recompilation of her original poems. In addition to being a musician, an art performer and a poet, Teri also engages in drawing and painting. Th e pieces included in this volume represent her fear, frustration and suff ering during a time of search. In her own words, these images conjure a world where her ego is castrated and all sins she has committed or of which she has been a victim can surface and see the light. In a similar manner what happens with her music, her drawings are the product of a cathartic process through which her negative emotions are purged.
