On Lacquer Painting

In this brief introduction to modern Chinese lacquer painting, Qiao Shi-guang describes this new form of an ancient fine art. Although the choice of colors available to lacquer painters is limited, a variety of materials and techniques can be used to produce striking effects not possible with other kinds of painting.
