Abstract
Most studies of biography and life writing all but ignore Sir John Harington’s work titled A Supplie or Addicion to the Catalogue of Bishops to the Yeare 1608. This little-known document was presented as part of a total package of advice to Henry, Prince of Wales for his fourteenth birthday. Within this biographical catalogue, Harington offers quirky anecdotes and personalised humour as opposed to the usual generalities of moral excellence and exemplary behaviour. In so doing, he makes an early contribution to English life writing at the same time as he provides entertaining personal and political advice for future Stuart government.
