Une mission archéologique canadienne a entrepris de fouiller la cité de Tunip qui se trouverait sur le site actuel de Tell ‘Acharneh, dans la moyenne vallée de l’Oronte, en Syrie intérieure. Après une campagne très préliminaire, en 1998, cette mission a réalisé deux campagnes de fouilles et une saison d’études du matériel archéologique. Outre la fouille de Tell ‘Acharneh, l’équipe canadienne s’est lancée, en 2004. dans la prospection de vallée au sein de laquelle il se trouve afin de mieux en comprendre le rôle dans les modes d’occupation de la vallée durant les âges du Bronze et du Fer (c. 3000–700 av. J.-C).
A Canadian archaeological project has endeavoured to excavate Tunip. an ancient city which should probably be identified with the site of Tell ‘Acharneh in the Middle Orontes Valley of inland Syria. After a very preliminary campaign in 1998, the project carried out two seasons of excavations and one study season of the excavated materials. Besides the excavations of Tell ‘Acharneh, the Canadian team initiated in 2004 an archaeological survey of the valley in which ‘Acharneh is located, with the aim of better understanding the site’s role among the various types of occupation in the region during the Bronze and Iron Ages (ca. 3000–700 BC).
