This article provides an Uzbek journalist’s view of the role of social media in Central Asia. She argues that, despite state restrictions, social media is having a positive impact in the region by enabling greater dialogue among citizens, encouraging people to learn how to communicate their ideas, stimulating critical thinking and fostering the ability of individuals and groups to change their society.
