Abstract

Rafail Sholomovich Ganelin (1926−2014) was a patriarch of Russian historians, specifically – of the St. Petersburg school of Russian historiography of the imperial period, with its special interest in the history of the government and governance. Igor Lukoianov outlines Ganelin’s scholarly trajectory and the special niche formed by his research interests within the general research agenda of the historical tradition he belonged to.
