From the Editor

As many readers already know, the editorial office of American Quarterly has officially moved from the University of Southern California to the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa as of July 1, 2014. However, because of the editorial pipeline in the transition process, the review and selection of the articles in this issue were completed by the University of Southern California editorial team led by Sarah Banet-Weiser. The production phase of the issue was handled jointly by Nic John Ramos, the previous managing editor at the University of Southern California, and Stacy Nojima, the new managing editor at the University of Hawai’i.

Because of the transition, this issue does not have a traditional Editor’s Note. The March 2015 issue, which will be the first issue that the University of Hawai’i team is primarily responsible for editing, will carry an Editor’s Note outlining the new editorial team’s visions for American Quarterly and describing the editorial practice we have put in place to realize those visions. In the meantime, we enthusiastically welcome submissions of articles on all topics in the field by scholars from all backgrounds and affiliations.

In lieu of an Editor’s Note, I would like to congratulate the University of Southern California editorial team for the wonderful job it has done in representing the best scholarship and moving the field of American studies in new directions in the past decade. With a humble recognition that I have very large shoes to fill, I would like to express my admiration for my predecessors in California, Marita Sturken, Curtis Marez, and Sarah Banet-Weiser, for their editorial vision and leadership, and thank the Board of Managing Editors and the editorial staff for their commitment to the selection and distribution of rigorous, border-crossing scholarship in American studies.
