In the Winter 1931 issue of the Virginia Quarterly Review, Aldous Huxley published the essay “Boundaries of Utopia,” which he originally titled “Notes on Liberty and the Boundaries of the Promised Land.” Writing during a time of dramatic changes in labor relations in the US and in the midst of Fascism’s rise in Europe, Huxley predicted many of the concerns that continue to plague nations and global economies today, namely the imbalance between the haves and have-nots.
