Personalia 2013

The statistical summary includes only those departments listed in the preceding Personalia section that sent in statistics before we went to press, i.e. all departments except the asterisked ones. Not all departments submitted enrollment figures. We count asterisked departments only in the total number of departments (). Departments that have no active faculty members will be removed from the listing of individual departments. The University of Arkansas, Little Rock reported that the German program had been ended by the administration and the active faculty member was not renewed. We have included them in in the total count of reporting departments, indicating that their faculty head count is zero. Because it has been 25 years since we began reporting degree-seeking enrollments, we have included some general remarks about trends in the profession since the 1980s.
