Abstract
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) contains a large number of jazz-related terms whose first citation is from a British publication. This paper examines the possible reasons for this phenomenon, asks whether the record found in the OED is accurate or not, and offers suggestions for what this evidence can tell us.
