Abstract
Seven illustrated manuscripts of the Middle English Prose Brut portray images of King Arthur. These visual representations of Arthur work with and against their narrative texts in the service of at least four different historiographical schemes, but British Arthur remains a linchpin of English history in all seven Brut chronicles.
