I am very pleased that Western American Literature has found a new home at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I am grateful for the faith that the leadership of the Western Literature Association has placed in me, to serve as the new editor. The first issue under the new editorial regime will be 49.1, which we expect to be out in May 2014.
We are lucky to have the strong support of the College of Arts and Sciences, the English Department, and the Center for Great Plains Studies, all of whom are offering financial and/or logistical assistance.
We are also pleased that we will now be partnering with the University of Nebraska Press, which will handle the production and mailing of the journal. As most of you know, the University of Nebraska Press is one of the leading publishers of literature and scholarship on the American West, including their Postwestern Horizon series, in which many WLA members participate. Few publishers understand what we do better than Nebraska Press does. Their journals division currently publishes 26 journals.
At this moment, I have two staff members. Chandler Warren is serving as graduate student fellow devoted mainly to book reviews. And Melissa Marsh is an editorial assistant on salary with the Center for Great Plains Studies who will devote a part of her time to WAL, primarily as a liaison with the Press. In addition, I am anticipating an additional graduate student fellow at the beginning of 2014.
There will be some changes. In the near future, the Press will be creating an online portal for article submissions and peer review. I will announce when this is active. In the meantime, we will be accepting submissions via email. You will no longer need to send a paper copy.
We will be continuing the efforts that Melody and Sabine started to have back issues of WAL available digitally via Project MUSE and other online sources. Eventually all back issues will be accessible online.
If you have any comments, questions, concerns, suggestions, by all means feel free to contact me. Our new phone number is 402-472-1833. Send all email correspondence to email@example.com. And our new mailing address is

There is a new journal website, which will be upgraded over the course of the next few months: www.unl.edu/plains/western-american-literature.
I can assure you that I will do my best to continue the inspiring tradition of quality scholarship begun nearly 50 years ago by J. Golden Taylor, and continued so well by Tom Lyon and Melody Graulich. Those are all hard acts to follow, and I ask your understanding—and compassion—when I inevitably stumble in my efforts to maintain their high standards of excellence. [End Page 365]
