APCG DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD The Association's Distinguished Service Awards were initiated in 1983. Selection for the Award is based on an accumulation of con tributions to the organization, including service in elective office, responsibility for the Yearbook or newsletter, participation in annual meetings, service on committees, and general support for the Asso ciation. The Aw ards Com m ittee, under the leadership of Mark Wilson, presented the Distin guished Service Award to one member of the Association at the 64th Annual M eeting held at Santa Barbara, California, in September, 2001. PHILIP R. PRYDE, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Geography at San Diego State University, has been a member of the APCG since the 1970s. He served as chair of the field trip committee for the 1988 Annual M eetings in San Diego, was elected as Vice President of the APCG for 1989-90, and served as President in 1990-91. During his presidency, he initiated a re view and critique by past APCG presidents of the Association's mission, goals, and activities. Phil was a nominee in 1995 for the position of APCG Councilor to the AAG, and served as a member of the society's Nominating Committee in 1998. He has had articles published in the Yearbook in the 1988,1992, 1995, and 2000 editions. It is with great pleasure that the Association recognizes Dr. Pryde's many years of dedicated service to the APCG and his continuing involvement in its activities by presenting him with the Association's 2001 Distinguished Service Award. 175 ...
