Marcus D. Jones is the Ben D. Johnson Endowed Professor of business law and economics at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he serves as a financial manager for a construction company. He is also a practicing attorney in the State of Louisiana. His photography has been published in previous issues of Callaloo.

Manuel González was born in Cotija Michoacan in Mexico. and has studied photography at the University of Veracruz, Xalapa, and at the Centre du Formation au Cinema Direct in Paris, France. His teachers include Nacho López and Carlos Jurado. This documentary photographers work has been such of essays whose comparative topics have focused on the African presence in Mexico and Columbia. He lives in Coatepec, a community adjacent to Xalapa.
