Tanya Sheehan is Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Colby College and a Fellow at the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University. She is the author of Doctored: The Medicine of Photography in Nineteenth-Century America (2011). Her forthcoming book will examine ideas about race in photographic humor.
Clarence Lang is an Associate Professor of African and African American Studies at the University of Kansas. He is the author of Grassroots at the Gateway: Class Politics and Black Freedom Struggle in St. Louis, 1936–75, and co-editor with Robbie Lieberman of Anticommunism and the African American Freedom Movement: “Another Side of the Story.”
Megan E. Williams will spend 2013–2014 as Visiting Assistant Professor of American Studies at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. Her essays have appeared in American Periodicals, Journal of American Studies, and American Studies. At present, she is preparing a book manuscript exploring the postwar autobiographical performances of Lena Horne.
Lerone A. Martin, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Washington University Danforth Center for Religion and Politics. His book, Preaching on Wax: The Phonograph and the Making of Modern American Religion, is forthcoming on New York University Press. [End Page 4]
