Abstract
Many teachers of the deaf do not fully understand the language situation of the deaf. However, a number of schools for the deaf are now interested in switching to total communication. If these programs are to succeed, language specialists must be involved. Teacher training programs are not sufficient to produce the needed language specialists. This paper suggests a program that would create these specialists.
