The 23rd May 2012 marked the 200th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Old Library at Trinity College Library. The occasion was marked by two exhibitions — 'Dublin: One City, One Book' and 'A Great Many Choice Books: 300 Years of the Old Library', as well as a conference 'Building Collections', and the publication of this book. There are fifty essays, some written by library staff, others from scholars and alumni who used the Old Library collections during their time as undergraduates. The essays are a mix of reflections on the history of the library and pieces on individual highlights from the collections. A new addition to Scala's beautifully illustrated series showing 'Treasures' of the great libraries of the world. It begins with a survey of the library's history — 'Senate House Library: The First Hundred Years', by Karen Attar, and contains a selection of sixty highlights from the collections with descriptions contributed by a wide range of authors. The items featured are taken from such diverse collections as the Goldsmiths' Library of Economic Literature, the Harry Price Library of Magical Literature, the mathematical library of Augustus de Morgan, and the Sterling Library of English Literature.
